Before you hit the open road for your next RV adventure, there’s one simple step that could save your trip from unexpected frustration: a pre-trip inspection.
Have you checked with your local RV shop to see if they offer this service? Many do—and it’s worth every penny. A professional once-over of your rig can uncover hidden issues before they become costly (or dangerous) problems while you’re hundreds of miles from home.

Catch Problems Before They Catch You
Think of a pre-trip inspection like a safety net. You may feel confident in your RV, but even the most seasoned travelers can overlook something critical. When an RV sits in storage or goes unused for long periods, wear and tear, weather, or even rodents can cause damage that isn’t obvious until you’re on the road.
At a minimum, an RV pre-trip inspection should include a thorough check of:
Roof and Exterior
Your RV’s roof takes a beating from the elements, and leaks can develop without you knowing. A technician will look for soft spots, cracks, or failed sealants that could let water in. The exterior body, trim, and seams should also be checked for separation or weather damage.
Electrical System
From battery health to power converters, outlets, and shore power connections—your RV’s electrical system is crucial. A faulty connection or low battery could leave you without lights, refrigeration, or climate control.
LP Gas System
Your propane system powers many essential appliances. A leak or failed regulator can be dangerous. During an inspection, pressure tests and leak detection ensure everything is safe and functioning properly.
Appliances
Are your fridge, water heater, furnace, and air conditioner working as they should? Catching a failed appliance before your trip allows time for repair—not a last-minute scramble on the road.
Slide-Outs and Leveling Jacks
Technicians will check that slide-outs move smoothly and seals are intact. Leveling systems are also tested for leaks, mechanical failures, or electrical issues that could prevent your RV from setting up properly at camp.
Don’t Let a Small Issue Ruin a Big Trip
Nothing derails a vacation like preventable problems. Don’t wait until you’re stuck on the side of the road or calling for mobile RV repair miles from a service center. A quick inspection now can give you peace of mind later.
Let this be your reminder: call your local RV shop and ask about pre-trip inspections. A little preparation goes a long way toward a safe, stress-free, and enjoyable RV adventure.
