Grand Design RV Recall: Axle U-Bolt Issue – How California RV Specialists Can Help

Affected Models: 2021–2024 Momentum | 2022–2024 Solitude Fifth Wheels

Grand Design RV, LLC has issued a safety recall affecting certain 2021–2024 Momentum and 2022–2024 Solitude fifth wheel trailers due to a potential axle attachment issue that could increase the risk of a crash.

According to the recall notice, U-bolts that secure the axle to the suspension may loosen over time, which can allow the axle to shift out of position. If an axle moves while towing, it can negatively affect handling and stability—creating a serious safety concern for RV owners and other motorists on the road.

This recall was issued on January 26 and may impact up to 7,585 units nationwide.

What’s Causing the Problem?

At this time, the root cause of the loose U-bolts has not been definitively identified, and the manufacturer’s investigation is ongoing. Until a permanent repair procedure is released, Grand Design is advising owners of affected units to:

  • Visually inspect the suspension and axle mounting hardware before travel
  • Watch for loose U-bolts, shifted axles, uneven tire wear, or abnormal noises
  • Avoid towing the RV if any suspension movement or damage is observed

Recall Remedy (Fix) – Still Pending

As of now, the official remedy is still under development. Grand Design has stated that interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed beginning March 11.

Once a repair procedure is finalized, owners will be contacted with instructions on how to schedule repairs through authorized service centers.

What Owners Should Do Right Now

If you own one of the affected Momentum or Solitude models, we strongly recommend:

  • Performing pre-trip suspension inspections
  • Having your suspension and axle hardware professionally inspected if you notice:
    • Axle movement
    • Loose or missing U-bolts
    • Abnormal tire wear
    • Tracking or alignment issues while towing
  • Avoiding travel if you suspect suspension components have shifted
