I wanted to share a few photos that one of our RV owners sent us because I thought they were both clever and practical.
Like many RV owners, they were frustrated by items moving around while traveling. Their refrigerator doors had a tendency to swing open and bump into the surrounding cabinetry, and their dinette chairs would slide around the coach during transit.
Their solution?
Pool noodles.
By cutting sections of inexpensive pool noodles and placing them in strategic locations throughout the RV, they were able to cushion doors, secure furniture, and prevent items from shifting while traveling. It’s a simple, low-cost idea that can help reduce unnecessary wear and tear on your RV’s interior.

While this is a great temporary solution, it also highlights a much bigger issue that we see every day in our shop.
On social media, RV owners frequently post photos of broken shower doors, drawers that fly open, cabinet doors that won’t stay closed, furniture that shifts, televisions that come loose, and other interior damage. In many cases, these problems aren’t caused by defective products—they’re caused by the constant pounding, vibration, and twisting that every RV experiences on today’s roads.

Simple ideas like pool noodles can certainly help protect your belongings, but they’re often addressing the symptom rather than the cause.

One of the most effective ways to reduce movement throughout your RV is by improving the suspension system.
Depending on your RV, upgrades such as improved equalizers, heavy-duty shocks, comfort ride systems, independent suspension, or other suspension enhancements can dramatically reduce the harsh impacts and vibration transmitted through the coach. While no suspension system can eliminate every bump in the road, the right upgrades can make a noticeable difference in ride quality while helping reduce stress on your RV’s frame, cabinets, appliances, furniture, and interior components.
Driving habits also play a huge role.
Slow down when approaching railroad crossings, potholes, curbs, bridge transitions, dips, and uneven road surfaces. Many of the failures we see occur after a hard impact that could have been minimized simply by reducing speed and allowing the suspension time to absorb the load.
If you’ve noticed things coming loose, shifting, rattling, or breaking while traveling, don’t ignore the warning signs. Those small problems are often indicators that your RV is experiencing more movement than it should.
At California RV Specialists, we specialize in suspension upgrades and ride quality improvements designed to help protect your investment while making your travels more enjoyable.
A special thank you to the RV owner who shared these photos and allowed us to pass along this great idea. Sometimes the simplest solutions can make a big difference—and maybe they’ll inspire another RV owner to save a cabinet, a refrigerator door, or even a shower door on their next adventure.
Have you come up with a creative way to keep things from moving around while traveling? We’d love to see your ideas—share them in the comments!
