Faulty entrance door latch could prevent occupants from exiting in an emergency
If you ever need to get out of your RV in a hurry and find yourself locked inside, that’s not just inconvenient—it’s dangerous. Grand Design RV, LLC has issued a recall affecting certain 2025–2026 Lineage Class C motorhomes equipped with Lippert Modularia entrance doors due to a potential door latch failure.
According to the recall notice, the door latch mechanism may fail, which could prevent occupants from exiting the RV in an emergency—especially concerning if the cab doors are disabled. This condition increases the risk of injury and poses a serious safety hazard. Approximately 663 units may be affected.
What’s the Issue?
Grand Design identified that on certain 2025–2026 Lineage motorhomes manufactured between May 6, 2024 and July 9, 2025, the entry door may not open properly. If the latch mechanism fails, occupants could become trapped inside the coach during an emergency situation.
Background on the Recall
On May 14, 2025, Grand Design notified its lock supplier, Lippert Components, that multiple RVs on the production line had entrance doors that would not unlock. A review of warranty claims also revealed at least one customer complaint related to the same issue. Following further investigation, Grand Design determined on July 7, 2025 that a safety recall was necessary.
Recall Remedy (Fix)
Dealers will perform the following repair at no cost to the owner:
- Create a small access hole in the side of the door
- Remove the original retainer clip
- Install a new retainer clip
- Add a secondary retainer clip to the door latch tension rod for redundancy and improved reliability
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning September 12, 2025.
